A simple two-fly nymph rig (without chaos)

Technique · 8 min read

A beginner-friendly nymphing rig that stays tidy: depth control, strike detection, and a simple drift plan.

Use one heavier nymph on point and one smaller nymph on a dropper above it.

Set indicator depth so the point fly ticks bottom occasionally — not constant snags.

Match your drift speed to the seam you’re fishing; that’s more important than pattern choice.

Mend early and gently. Big mends move flies unnaturally and kill your drift.

When you see a pause or feel a tap, lift smoothly — no wild hooksets.

Keep it ethical: respect access rules, handle fish gently, and leave the water better than you found it.
